Property Tax Overpayments and Uncashed Checks

The Tax Office has overpayments that have not been claimed. These monies are the result of overpayments to property tax accounts and uncashed refund checks. Use the search tools below to find your money. Then, complete the appropriate request form to get your money refunded or your check reissued.

Property Tax Overpayments
Search the 2004 Property Tax Overpayment Database to determine if you are due    a refund for this tax year.
Search the 2005 Property Tax Overpayment Database to determine if you are due    a refund for this tax year.

To receive a refund from the Tax Office, download the Application for Property Tax Refund form, complete Steps 1-5 and sign and date the form. Please return the completed form to the Tax Office by fax at 713–368–2249 or by mail to:

If you believe you may be due a refund for a tax year prior to 2003, please call 713-368-2102.

Uncashed Checks
Search the Outstanding Check Database to determine if a check was issued to you which has not been cashed. The Harris County Tax Office routinely issues refund checks payable to taxpayers of Harris County. Some refund checks, issued after the period July 1, 2003, have not been cashed.
Unclaimed Monies
Visit the Texas State Comptroller's Web site to search additional unclaimed property databases at www.window.state.tx.us.
For unclaimed monies under $100, please call the Harris County Treasurer's Office at 713-755-7386.
